Biography

Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1981), obtained doctoral (1987) and Full professorship (1994) in Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirao Preto, University of Sao Paulo. Performed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Manchester, England (1989-1990) under the supervision of Dr. JFW Deakin. He is currently Full Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirao Preto, University of Sao Paulo. Dr. Guimarães has experience in the area of ​​pharmacology with emphasis on Neuropsychopharmacology. He has published 124 papers in journals of international impact, 22 book chapters and one book (co-authored). Mentored 16 master’s , 10 doctoral (plus two as co-mentor) and 2 postdoctoral dissertations. Currently mentors two master’s , seven doctoral and one postdoctoral dissertations.

Nitric oxide, anxiety, depression, glutamate, serotonin, cannabinoids and stress.
