Biography

Professor, Division of Psychology, Department of Neuroscience and Behavioral Sciences, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, Coordinator of the Laboratory for Research in Prevention of Developmental and Behavioral Disorders in Children, Coordinator of the Pediatric Psychology Service of the Clinical Hospital, Researcher sponsored by CNPq, Level 1-A. Professional Specialization: Clinical Child Psychology and Hospital Psychology. Teacher of the disciplines: Developmental Psychology (Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy students) and Psychology (Medicine students) (FMRP-USP). Master’s and Doctoral mentor: Mental Health Graduate Program (FMRP -USP) and Psychology Graduate Program (FFCLRP-USP). Co-investigator of the Pain in Child Health: A CIHR Strategic Training Initiative in Health Research.

Areas of Interest

Biological and psychosocial risk factors for development disorders; bio-behavioral reactivity and development in newborn and pre-term infants/children; long-term effects of early experiences of pain and stress in child development, assessment and management of pain, temperament and behavior in vulnerable children. The focus of my interdisciplinary line of research is the bio-behavioral reactivity and development of children, involving multiple motor, cognitive, behavior, temperament and self-regulation aspects. The studied samples were neonates, infants and preschool children of various vulnerable populations (premature, low socioeconomic status, chronic pain, sick). The main focus is the preterm and very low birth weight (<1,500 g) child. The prospective-longitudinal allow assessment of the impact of the biological risk of prematurity in developmental trajectories. Research performed in this line of investigation are subsidized by FAPESP and CNPq.
